인센스 홀더 노트.
 
-여울지다.
하나. 식물의 열매나 꽃,잎 따위가 몹시 많이 열리다.
하나. 물살이 세게 흐르는 여울처럼 감정 따위가 힘차게 설레거나 움직이다.
하나. 생각 따위가 천천히 타오르는 불길처럼 일어나다.
“여울지다”는 블로잉 작업으로 만들어진 인센스 홀더 시리즈이다. 투명한 작품을 관통하는 인센스의 연소 과정은 사용자로 하여금 호흡과 사색, 완전한 몰입을 유도한다. 들숨과 날숨에 집중하며 작품과 하나가 되었을 때 사용자는 비로소 불길처럼 일어난 잡념을 태우고 기화시킨다. 마치 자신의 여울진 마음이 버닝 인센스에 투영되듯이. 마치 자신의 거친 망상이 향기로 전환된 환영을 보듯이.
소품으로 가볍게 양산되는 기존의 인센스 관련 공예품과는 달리 크기와 양감을 극대화하여 한점, 한점의 작품으로 빚어 보았다. 내면의 평온과 집중이 더욱 조망되는 현시대에 사용자가 작품을 통해 더욱 값진 자기로의 여행을 경험하기를 바래본다.
 

Artist’s Notes on Blown Glass Incense Holders

Yeouljita (Korean verb)
1. for a plant to be plentiful in the fruits, blooms and leaves that it produces
2. for emotions to surge or come forth with great force like rapids in a stream
3. for thoughts and the like to arise like slow-burning flames
‘Yeouljita’ is the name for Artist Seong-hoon Park’s series of blown glass incense holders. Watching the process of incense burning as it traverses through the body of a transparent holder induces the user to synchronize their breathing rhythm with the flow of incense smoke, coaxing them into a state of complete immersion in contemplation. Unity with the incense burner achieved by concentrating on the cycle of breathing in and out allows the user to rein in and vaporize the torrent of worldly thoughts surging through their minds like wildfire. In this process, the user experiences a spiritual illusion in which they see their tumultuous minds caught in the rapids of the mundane world being projected onto the burning incense and their secular wild thoughts transforming into fragrant air.   
Unlike mass-produced commercial varieties meant for casual use, Park’s incense holders are suffused with artistic inspiration flowing from their exaggerated volumes and sizes. Park hopes that his works expedite the user’s journey to the inner self, enabling them to experience the wonders of internal peace and spiritual immersion that are highly valued in today’s hectic world.
